Quiche Capiche.

Before I get to the happy-go-lucky stuff, I need to get something off my chest. From those brilliant minds of yours, pull out the memory of me entering in this DIY contest over on a wedding website. Turns out they only showed entries made by professional photographers, the website's vendors, or their blog's internet friends. I'm mostly pissed off about the fact that they made it sound like they would include their readers in the contest. My mistake. I guess I have to have an Etsy shop for veil headpieces or something to even be considered. Whatever. At least I'm not so stupid as to enter a wedding favor that consists of making a CD of music you would have to buy on iTunes and distributing it as a thank you. Copyright infringement much?

Aaaaaaaaaaaanyways. I initially wanted to post about my super secret bridesmaids gift project, but that's all I'm going to tell you. HA! They're a secret, people! I will tell you that I had a little bit of trouble with the first one, but I got the hang of it, and then the others weren't that bad. I'm really selling these gifts, aren't I? Well, I'll give you the Chuck Guarantee that they're super cool.

It's hard not to lose hope over these gladiolas that won't bud. I read online that they'll start budding around 90 days, and it's only been around 60 days, but when I told the florist that I was trying to grow them out here she laughed at me, then apologized and explained that they probably won't get enough sun. I am going to politely disagree, but then again, she does work with flowers for a living. At the very least, the air in the apartment is getting filtered.

Troubles with the hotel representative abound! Here's a shorthand of what we talked about.

"So I'm buying (x) dollars of wine from the hotel for the day-of."
"Oh, okay. I'll take that out of the (y) amount that you are spending to rent the room."
"That sounds great!"

I thought she meant (y) - (x) = an amount smaller than (y). When I was talking to H. about this interaction, he pointed out she probably meant that the wine will be included in the price to rent the room, leaving me with just (y). I tried calling her today, but didn't get an answer back (shocking, I know). I'll call her again next week and figure out the price of the room, plus what exactly $300 worth of a "sound system" entails. I would like for it to include more than two speakers, plus a hookup so we can play music off of an iPod or iPhone or something. But you can't always get what you want.

Food time! I made a kickass quiche for dinner yesterday. I really wanted to dig into it for lunch today, but instead had a tuna salad sandwich. The best part about this quiche is it doesn't have a crust. It's crustless! I found the recipe on this website, which seems to have nothing to do with the rest of that blog but whatevs. I accept your fantastic quiche despite your boring blog! But seriously, the best part is probably the cheese at the bottom. I thought you had to put a decent amount on so that it would form the "crust", but you really don't. Unless you want to eat heaven. The quiche I made included colby jack cheese, mushrooms, fully-cooked smoked sausage, chopped spinach (previously frozen), and green onions. Lemme tell ya - definitely substitute a regular onion for green onions. Those things really made it special. I followed the egg filling part to the letter, but I didn't understand why you had to melt the butter if you were just going to add cold milk to the bowl next. I was worried that the little lumps of butter that didn't mix would ruin the quiche, but my fears were unfounded. It is the best quiche ah ever dun made. It's also the first quiche ah ever dun made. I might upload a photo of it tomorrow before my belly claims it.

Currently, the Rangers are beating the Yankees 5 to 2. Also, we broke the Yankees record for the number of double plays they grounded into - the record is now six. Six! Six times the Yankees hit into a double play tonight! Very exciting baseball, if you ask me.

Don't tell Dad I said this, but Russell Brand is actually funny. If you're unsure about who I'm referring to, Russell Brand is this dude.

Completely weird and weird and British but also kooky. He kind of gives me the heeby-jeebies just looking at him. He is also Katy Perry's husband (yeah, wow). Today, he was on the Rachael Ray show, and as I sat there in my workout clothes wondering why the heck he was invited to her seemingly A-class show, something suddenly happened. I laughed! I can't find a video of him on the show, but trust me, he was honestly funny. I promise you I laughed more than once out loud, not just a chuckle either. I'm willing to give him a second chance.

That's all for tonight. Time to make tilapia!

  1. I thought Russell Brand was decent in Bedtime Stories. As good as anything in that movie could have been anyway. I'm a little worried about the new Arthur movie they're making. The original with Dudley Moore was so good!

You have had nothing but trouble with that hotel. If there were more time, I'd suggest finding somewhere new, but that's not really an option anymore. They'd better make it worth it! Otherwise, I'll beat them down!

Anyway, I'm super-curious about these gifts you keep talking up! Should I be worried?! Anyway, Can't wait 'til you get here again! If Monday and Wednesday are your options for your bridal shower, I vote Monday. Preferably late afternoon. That way I won't have to try to rearrange a work schedule. Is that selfish? Anyway, just putting in my two cents worth.

  2. Monday sounds great! Hopefully that works for everyone, but you definitely have to be there. You're my MOH!

And I agree. If the other options didn't cost $5k to rent, we might've switched a month ago. But alas ... I just hope everything goes the way it's supposed to. On the day-of, I'm going to relinquish control, and whatever happens will happen. C'est la vie!

    I know something you don't know! :P

Oh and hey - if it would work better, we might go get dinner or early dinner somewhere like La Madeline or something for the shower. If early afternoon / early evening is the only time that works, then that's perfectly fine. But I'm leaving it up to you because I'm all planned out. You can do it!
