In The Meantime

I forget if I've said this before, but H. and I bought a little stair stepper to use instead of going to the tiny, cramped not-very-gym-like gym that the apartment complex has. So every day, I hop on that gadget and walk along while I watch Eureka or Bones or any movie that I know H. will never ever watch. However, a couple of days ago, I had a little strain in my left leg. I figured I was just "feeling the burn!", but after trying to stretch it out, I think I made it worse. So, today is my first day off from working out - I kind of miss it now that I've been doing it every day for a week or two. And what else would I do with my newly found extra time than look at wedding-y things!

I do believe I have solved our What Goes Inside That Darn Vase problem! I found this super easy idea that will completely eliminate the debate on whether to use rocks or sand or sliced lemons and oranges or chupacabras to fill up the empty space inside the vase. Ta da!

How easy would it be to just spray paint the vases white? Then we could put whatever the heck we want inside, and no one would see. Also, I'm super psyched about seeing those gorgeous green leaves flowing over the sides of a perfectly white vase. Super duper psyched! And it's most definitely cheaper than any option we have for putting something inside the vase.

Aaahh. It feels really nice to have a cheap yet elegant solution for something.

Time to go make a haircut appointment!

EDIT: Susan, I found some more inspiration for my/our bouquets. Here's a link with more photos. The only thing I don't like about these is that I'm pretty sure dahlias are on the more expensive end of the floral spectrum, so I'll have to figure out some substitutions.

(5 min later) Okay, I also found this colorful little guy. I'm kind of in love with it. So cute! I have no idea what type of flower this is, though. Any thoughts? This might be my decision ... maybe ... !! Now I've got visions of me with this bouquet and you and Brittany with Either just pink ones or just yellow ones or something. Oh my goodness! I'm so excited! Now I just need to know what flower this is.

Alrighty. Now I'm off to tidy the apartment. Whistle while you work!

  1. So! I heard back from Millie the Cake Lady! The final quote, before flowers of course, is $285. That doesn't include delivery fee either. I think she said that was $45.

That serves 75. For the preserves, she has the same butter cream icing that's around the outside of the cake, and she applies a layer to the top of one cake layers, and then to the bottom of the next. She puts the preserves between them. The layers of icing provide a barrier so the color doesn't bleed into the cake. I think it will be very tasty indeed. The question is, do you want to stay with strawberry or would you like to try the raspberry?

As soon as I figure out how to send you the document she sent me, I'll do that. In the meantime, I'll just convey everything I can here. The middle tier is what she calls cornelli lace. The top and bottom are your choice of a regular swirl piping or what she calls "e" swirl. If you look at the gallery on her site, the first cake? That's the regular swirl pattern. The fourth cake there? The bottom is the cornelli lace, and the middle is kind of like the "e." She didn't have any good pictures of that one on the site, unfortunately. We could do something else, of course, if you prefer.

Those flowers look kind of like azaleas, but not quite. And the stem is all wrong too. Sadness! I absolutely adore the first bouquet too! I'm not so keen on the little medallion thing on the holder part, but the flowers are so pretty! I think yellow or pink would look good with the other colors involved.

Spray painting the vases! Genius! It seems so simple. You're so smart ^-^ I think that will look really good.

Speaking of florists! Okay, we weren't, but I have something to say anyway. Millie mentioned two more florists that she's worked with.

I hope that helps. One last thing. Is it official? Shall I order those shoes? I haven't heard from Brittany what she wants to do. Your mom suggested that the two are similar enough that she and I could wear the different styles and get away with it. What do you think? I like the look of the higher one too, and would prefer them for after the wedding as general heels. It's up to you ^-^

  2. I'm not feeling very well, so I'll have to get back to you on all the cake decisions and such. But I wanted to say that I don't mind it at all if you guys want to wear different heel heights. :] And I'd love it if you could wear those shoes again so that I don't feel like I'm making you buy shoes for one occasion. So go for it!

  3. I'm going to chime in and say I think the flowers are sweet peas. They are very delicate and bloom for only one day. They smell very nice! Love, Mom
