Un Viaje al Zoo

Did you know that the Spanish word for zoo was zoo? Me either. But now that I'm back from my blog vacation, maybe I'll pick up a little Spanish here and there. For now, here are a couple of pictures from when H. and I went to the zoo last April, before it was a thousand degrees. It's a pic-intensive post, so I learned how to use one of these jump things.

Gorgeous sleeping flamingos.
Seeing two flamingos attacking one of their own was a little unsettling.
Two cute snakes snuggled up on a branch.
I forget what the actual species is, so I'll call them unicorn snakes.
It took us forever to find the three lizards hidden in this complex.
But when we did, they turned out to be super cool dudes.
I'm being repressed!
For as large as their bodies are, you would think their claws would be a little bigger.
Super cute meerkats in the meerkat exhibit!
This one was super tall.
I'd like to think this albino tiger was pregnant with another albino tiger.
Wouldn't you hate to be a bear in Texas?
The female lions were in a separate exhibit from the male lion, but
they were both sleeping like cute little kittens.
This is what I look like in the morning.
This is the exhibit directly across from the lions. Also, I have
no idea what that deer-a-lope is doing.
The lady ahead of us told her son that "These are mountain goats."
Neat bird enclosure with four or five species of parakeet cousins. You could
purchase some food for the birds to nibble, which some people did.

These were the too cool for school rocker birds next to the exit.
This falcon decided to prepare for takeoff in the middle of my photo op.
Two kinds of parrots, but I think the blue ones are more striking.
I wish this one would turn around for the photo. I wonder
what kind of brush the bird's camouflage hides it in.
Girl peacocks are kind of ugly up close.
It was so difficult to take pictures of the fish in the Australian exhibit. I was
determined to get a picture of this freaky fish with a human face.
This was my favorite fish in the exhibit, but it's really a shark.
Penguins make me happy.
This is a picture of a Longhorn that I know.
And that concludes our trip to the zoo. I'm happy that H. had the brilliant idea to get half-gallon water bottles from a gas station on our way down there. Also, I'm happy that there weren't too many kids there on field trips.

The next update will include pictures legally obtained of art in an art museum. Okay, maybe two museums.

  1. Welcome back on the blogging wagon! Those rocker birds are cockatiels; I had 2 of them growing up. One flew out the door when it blew open in a storm and was later sighted with a flock of starlings. The one that remained was a jerk that would occasionally nest (and viciously defend) infertile eggs.
